Phygital Unconference

Free/Libre Technologies, Arts and the Commons: An Unconference about Art, Design, Technology, Making, Cities and their Communities.

University of Nicosia, Cyprus. May 2019.

Dr Lynn Jones and Harriet Poppy Speed co-authored a paper entitled Intersectional Feminism and Fact – Women’s Experience in Practical Workshops.

Using images, true stories and video footage, the paper highlights issues that women face within the UK furniture industry, and proposes pragmatic, creative and positive solutions. They present ideas for a revitalised workshop ethos; one to implement now and lead us into the future. If we are to combat feminist issues in this industry we need something new: new formats; new approaches, new thinking, new courses and new environments within which to experiment, inspire and excite.
